History

Groton Township’s second piece of new equipment includes this new tanker built by US Tanker on a International chassis replacing our previous 1971 tanker that was built locally with a limited budget and parts by the members of the Groton Township Fire Department. The new tanker has a 3500 gallon "baffled" tank with on-scene lighting contains side and rear remote discharges thereby eliminating the need for the unit to "back-in" to unload. With the remote discharge, the driver can stay in the cab and dump the 3500 gallon tank in a little over 3 minutes. This unit also contains a 500 gpm pump, 3,500 gallon portable pond, 500 gpm portable pump, ventilation fan and a full compliment of NFPA required equipment for a tanker. The tanker includes some unique features such "fly by wire" accelerator, computer controlled de-acceleration that automatically applies "jake brake" when no acceleration required.
